To move forward you have to move outside of your comfort zone.

Anu Duggal

Co-Founder, Female Founders Fund

Anu Duggal is a co-founder of the Female Founders Fund, an early stage fund that invests in technology companies founded by women, including Eloquii, WayUp, Tala, and Zola. Anu was named to Business Insider’s “Ultimate List of Female Startup Investors.”

The best career advice I’ve ever received is: When you are stressed about a decision, take a step back and ask yourself how important this decision will be for you in six months.

The thing I’ve achieved that I am most proud of is founding the Female Founders Fund and making a small impact on a huge industry issue.

My first job was running a lemonade stand at the age of eight.

The biggest challenge that women entrepreneurs face is taking that first step in starting a company: quitting your job, etc.

The most important feature of a business pitch is framing the story: the why, what, and how of your idea.

The three things I read every day are The New York Times, Term Sheet, and Broadsheet.

I knew I had to start the Female Founders Fund when I went through the process of raising capital from institutional investors, and everyone I pitched was male.

What I’ve learned since launching the Female Founders Fund is that women are building the companies of tomorrow. Five years ago, the idea of a female-founded unicorn was laughable. In the first six months of 2019, we saw three unicorns: Glossier, Rent the Runway, and Away.

The one thing I would like to say to every woman in the world is do not be afraid of failure. To move forward you have to move outside of your comfort zone.
